Russia is illegally detaining 180 political prisoners, said Dmytro Lubinets, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada.

"116 of them (political prisoners) are Crimean Tatars. The recent death of two tortured political prisoners - Kostiantyn Shiring and Dzhemily Gafarov - in the Kremlin cells was a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights and norms of international law by Russia. They were not given the necessary medical care," he wrote.

Lubinets noted that Russia does not stop harsh repression and persecution of Ukrainian citizens in the temporarily occupied Crimea due to constant fear of Ukrainian resistance.

Thus, the occupiers carry out illegal searches, open fabricated criminal cases, and fabricate sentences, particularly against representatives of the peninsula's indigenous people - the Crimean Tatars.
