Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, commenting on the controversial statement by Pope Francis regarding negotiations in the war of Russia against Ukraine, stated that one cannot capitulate to evil.

He wrote about this on the social media platform X.

"One must not capitulate in face of evil, one must fight it and defeat it, so that the evil raises the white flag and capitulates," emphasized Levits.

In an interview with the Swiss-language broadcaster RSI, Pope Francis called for negotiations in the war of Russia against Ukraine, stating that "the stronger will be the one who has the courage to raise the white flag."

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni, commenting on Pope Francis's words about seeking peace for Ukraine, stated that negotiations are never a capitulation.
