The project led by the Ministry of Health of the Italian Republic aimed at supporting the Superhumans and Unbroken centers, as well as other facilities for the treatment of military personnel and civilians injured in the armed conflict in Ukraine, has begun. The delegation from the Ministry, along with technical specialists from the National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (INAIL) and the Italian Red Cross, visited Lviv with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, the Embassy of Italy in Ukraine, and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS). During the visit, they inspected medical institutions and rehabilitation centers, namely Superhumans, Unbroken, and Galichina.

The project was developed in accordance with the commitments made by Italy for the reconstruction of Ukraine following the visit of the Head of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Meloni, in February 2023.

In April of the same year, the Minister of Health of the Italian Republic, Orazio Schillaci, stated during meetings with the Ukrainian delegation that Italy would provide assistance in the field of prosthetics and rehabilitation through partnerships with leading institutions such as the Prosthetics Center of the National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (INAIL), the Italian Red Cross, the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute in Bologna (Istituto Rizzoli), Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital (Ospedale pediatrico Bambino Gesù), and the Santa Lucia Foundation (Fondazione Santa Lucia) in Rome.

The main directions of the project include providing medical assistance both on-site and through the transfer of complex cases to Italy, training for Ukrainian medical personnel, and expanding the infrastructure and technological potential to establish local centers based on the Italian model of excellence.

Minister Orazio Schillaci held a bilateral video conference meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart to discuss in detail the forms of assistance that Italy can provide in the field of healthcare, including the signing of a cooperation agreement between the two Ministries.
