Russian forces are conducting intense shelling of the Sumy region, including the use of aviation.

This was stated by the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, Andriy Demchenko, during a TV broadcast.

“When it comes to the Sumy region and its border with Russia, it is important to note that the enemy continues to shell border areas. The shelling affects not only Sumy but also parts of Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. However, the majority of strikes are concentrated in the Sumy region. In this area, the enemy is actively using aviation — dropping guided aerial bombs and striking with unguided rockets,” Demchenko said.

According to him, these strikes are accompanied by attempts of small assault groups to break through. Recently, the Russian forces has expanded the geography of these attacks: earlier activity was observed near Basivka and Zhuravka, but now attempts are also being recorded near Veselivka and Volodymyrivka.

Demchenko noted that the Russian army is not using armored vehicles.

“These small assault groups periodically try to advance on quad bikes or motorcycles to use speed and penetrate as deeply as possible into our territory,” said the State Border Guard Service spokesperson.

He assured that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are effectively holding back the Russian attacks.
