Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine has arrested an FSB agent in Kyiv who conducted information sabotage against Ukraine.
He turned out to be a former Ukrainian official who previously worked in the Ministry of Fuel and Energy, State Reserves Committee, and Ministry of Coal Industry in previous years.
After leaving public service in 2014, he positioned himself as a "political expert" and author of publications praising the Kremlin's aggressive policies towards Ukraine.
Since then, he maintained direct contact with one of the leaders of the 5th FSB service, who coordinated his information subversive activities against Ukraine.
The Russian agent also collaborated with the terrorist Pasychnyk, providing "expert" recommendations to intensify repression against Ukrainian patriots in the temporarily occupied Luhansk.
In addition, the suspect posted messages on social media suggesting the "joining" of eastern regions of Ukraine to the Rostov region.
SSU counterintelligence documented the criminal activities of the Russian agent and detained him in his residence.
A comprehensive forensic linguistic examination confirmed that the documentary materials prepared by the suspect on the order of the FSB were directed against the national security of Ukraine.
During searches at the traitor's residence and car, computer equipment, mobile phones, and documents confirming his subversive activities in favor of Russia were seized.
Moreover, the suspect was found to have a "collaboration badge" from representatives of the aggressor state, as well as banned communist and pro-Kremlin symbols.
Based on the evidence obtained, the Security Service investigators have informed the detainee about the suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Article 111, Part 1 (state treason);
- Article 161, Part 1 (violation of the equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, regional affiliation, religious beliefs, disability, and other characteristics).
Preventive measure in the form of detention has been chosen for him. The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The perpetrator faces up to 15 years in prison.
