The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police prevented a bloody terrorist attack in Kyiv that was planned by the Russian military intelligence (commonly known as the GRU).

As a result of the special operation, two Russian agents were detained who were supposed to prepare an improvised explosive device and detonate it in one of the crowded places in the capital of Ukraine.

According to SSU counterintelligence, the goal of the Russian operatives was to maximize civilian casualties in Kyiv to spread panic among the citizens.

To carry out the terrorist act, Russian intelligence remotely recruited a 20-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia, who was looking for "easy" earnings in Telegram channels.

After recruitment, the agent received detailed instructions from the Russian forces on how to create an explosive device from improvised components.

According to the Russian instructions, the perpetrator used two mobile phones that needed to be connected to a detonator with plastic explosive, which she was supposed to obtain from a concealed stash. The Russian forces planned to "send" her the geolocation of the stash the day before the attack.

It has been established that she was in contact with a career employee of the Russian GRU, who was located in the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region.

To collaborate with the aggressor, the agent involved her 26-year-old partner. Before carrying out the terrorist act, both individuals were to complete a "control" task from the Russian special services: to set fire to several units of Ukrainian Armed Forces military equipment in the Zaporizhzhia area.

To prevent the crime, SSU counterintelligence agents detained both traitors "red-handed" as they attempted to set fire to an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) that was performing a mission on the southern front.

At the scene of the arrest, the detainees were found with tools of the crime and mobile phones containing evidence of subversive activities on behalf of Russia.

Investigators of the Security Service notified them of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy during a state of war).

The perpetrators are being held in custody without the right to bail. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
