Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented a new terrorist attack in Odessa. As a result of comprehensive measures, a married couple of Russian agents was detained while preparing an explosion against Ukrainian forces on orders from Russia.

The agents received coordinates from Russian handlers, retrieved an improvised explosive device from a cache, and scouted locations with the highest concentration of Ukrainian defense personnel, marking them on Google Maps and reporting back. After receiving approval, they planned to plant the explosive.

The Security Service exposed and documented their activities in advance and detained them en route to the intended target.

According to the investigation, the agents were an unemployed couple from Odessa recruited through a Telegram channel offering “easy earnings.” During searches, phones with evidence of their cooperation with Russia were seized.

Both were charged under Article 14 and Part 2 of Article 258 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (preparation for a terrorist act). Authorities are also considering additional charges of treason committed under martial law.

The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
