The Security Service of Ukraine  thwarted an attempt by the Russian Federal Security Service to infiltrate its agent into the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

As a result of a special operation in the Kyiv region, a traitor who attempted to join the National Police under the instructions of the Russian forces has been detained.

In the event of successful recruitment, he was tasked with gathering information about the law enforcement units, particularly those belonging to the "Advance Guard" of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. Additionally, he hoped to gain more "opportunities" to collect data on the personnel and movements of Ukrainian military equipment.

The intelligence was necessary for the aggressors to prepare air attacks on defense facilities and plan combat operations on the front lines.

According to the investigation, to ensure the agent's ability to fulfill the "mole's" tasks, the FSB gave him a "test" assignment. Specifically, the Russians instructed their associate to scout the locations of military airfields, hospitals, and defense plants in the Kyiv region. Additionally, he was tasked with gathering as much information as possible about one of the mechanized brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

To accomplish this, the traitor clandestinely used a local resident's apartment for accommodation. It was found that her son had fought as part of this brigade and died on the front lines.

SSU operatives meticulously documented the Russian agent's activities and apprehended him in his own residence during the final stage of the special operation. At that time, he had already submitted documents as a candidate for admission to the National Police.

According to the investigation, the detainee turned out to be a resident of Brovary district, who was remotely recruited by an FSB officer at the end of 2023. His identity has already been established by the Security Service. He came under the aggressor's radar due to pro-Kremlin comments he left in the chats of Russian Telegram channels.

To follow the Russian forces instructions, the traitor traversed the area, where he recorded the coordinates of the "required" objects and then transmitted the geolocation to his Russian curator.

For collaborating with the Russians, the suspect received a monetary "reward" from them, deposited to his own bank card.

During the search of the detainee, a mobile phone with evidence of his correspondence with the FSB was seized. Currently, the SBU investigators have informed him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under conditions of martial law).

The perpetrator is in custody and faces life imprisonment.
