Military Counterintelligence of the Security Service, in collaboration with the State Bureau of Investigations , has documented illegal activities involving a Deputy Director of the Finance Department of the Ministry of Defense.
The official improperly granted permission to the command of a military unit in the Vinnytsia garrison to transfer nearly 16 million budgetary Ukrainian hryvnias (UAH) to a local company.
It was determined that this sum was an advance payment to contractors who, under a signed agreement, were supposed to construct a bypass road with engineering fortifications around a military base.
However, the contractors did not carry out any construction work specified in the agreement. Instead, they siphoned off and embezzled the received state funds.
Based on the collected evidence, the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Defense's Department was informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (negligence in military service).
Currently, the issue of his suspension from office and the imposition of a preventive measure in the form of custody is being addressed. The official faces up to 7 years of imprisonment.
An investigation is ongoing to establish all circumstances of the crime and hold accountable those individuals involved in the misappropriation of budgetary funds.
Comprehensive measures were carried out under the procedural guidance of prosecutorial authorities.
