The Security Service of Ukraine has detained a Russian intelligence agent in Odessa. The suspect was preparing coordinates for a new series of missile and drone attacks on the city.
The primary targets for the enemy included temporary bases of the National Police's Joint Assault Brigade Lut, which operates on the southern front.
Additionally, the Russian forces planned to strike locations of mobile air defense fire groups.
To obtain geolocations for the attacks, the Russian intelligence agency remotely recruited a 63-year-old resident of Odessa who agreed to cooperate in exchange for money.
To carry out the Russia’s tasks, the agent regularly walked around the city, covertly photographing military sites under the guise of casual strolls.
The agent used email to transmit reconnaissance data to the aggressor.
SSU officers meticulously documented the suspect’s reconnaissance activities and apprehended him "in the act" while he was conducting surveillance near a military facility.
Additional measures were taken to secure Ukrainian military bases.
During a search of the detainee's residence, mobile phones and computer equipment containing evidence of criminal activity were seized.
The SSU investigators have notified him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with property confiscation.
