The Security Service of Ukraine  has thwarted a new attempt by Russia to obtain current information about the Armed Forces in Donetsk.

As a result of a special operation in Sloviansk, a military intelligence agent of Russia was detained, who was gathering intelligence on the redeployment of Ukrainian military units towards the front line. Primarily, she was trying to identify pontoon bridge complexes and locations where they were used to transport heavy weaponry across local rivers. Such information was needed by the occupiers to plan ground combat operations and prepare air strikes on locations where Ukrainian personnel and military equipment were concentrated.

The Security Service learned about these plans of the aggressor early on during the reconnaissance activities of the Russian agent. This allowed timely protection of Ukrainian positions. During the documentation process, it was also revealed that the agent's handler was from Russian military intelligence. She assigned tasks and paid for their execution to his subordinate. In the final stage of the special operation, the enemy agent was arrested in her own residence. Mobile phones were seized from her, on which she regularly changed accounts for covert communication with the Russian forces.

According to the investigation, the traitor turned out to be a 25-year-old local resident, an ideological supporter of Russian nationalism. During the occupation of the village of Yampil, the invaders remotely recruited the woman through her acquaintances in the captured settlement at that time. For a long time, she remained in a "sleeper" mode, but in the spring of this year, the agent was "activated" for reconnaissance and subversive activities in the frontline region. To carry out the tasks, she traversed the area and also attempted to covertly extract the necessary information from her acquaintances.

During searches, bank cards were also seized from the detainee, through which she received monetary "rewards" from the Russians.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators informed the suspect of the charges under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under conditions of martial law).

Currently, the criminal is in custody and faces life imprisonment.
