The Swiss Parliament Committee has supported the indirect export of weapons to Ukraine

The Security Policy Committee of the Swiss National Council (the lower house of parliament) has supported an initiative to allow indirect arms deliveries to Ukraine.

The committee proposed amending the law that prohibits the re-export of weapons to Ukraine, initiating the submission of the corresponding bill for parliamentary consideration.

According to the publication, the proposal was supported by 10 deputies in the committee, while 10 were against it and four abstained. The final decision was made by the committee chair, Seiler Graf.

The bill now needs to be reviewed by the National Council of Switzerland and the Council of States (the upper house of parliament). The decision on arms for Ukraine can only take effect if the initiative is supported by the deputies.

It should be noted that Switzerland is a neutral country, which prohibits it from supplying weapons to Ukraine. Additionally, the transfer of Swiss-made weapons to Ukrainian forces is also prohibited for third countries.

However, the Swiss government supports Ukraine by other means. Specifically, it imposes sanctions against Russia that are approved by the European Union.
