Reconnaissance drones Vector in Ukraine have begun equipping with sensors featuring artificial intelligence. This update enhances optical navigation, automatic detection, and identification of objects.
German company Quantum-Systems, the manufacturer of these UAVs, announced this on their official website.
The company stated that the Vector drones in Ukraine have started using the updated Artificial Intelligence Sensor (AI Receptor).
The new upgrade kit is based on the Nvidia Jetson Orin chip and multiple sensors. Implementing this update enables optical navigation day and night, in low visibility conditions, as well as automated object recognition and identification using artificial intelligence.
This Quantum Systems update offers an additional positioning option for reconnaissance drones in conditions where Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) signals are unavailable.
Testing and development of the module are being conducted at the company's recently opened development site in Ukraine.
Quantum-Systems explained that the AI Receptor enables autonomous flight at night and in poor weather conditions through infrared visual navigation. The technology for object detection has also been significantly enhanced.
The hardware and software updates now allow for better detection, classification, identification, and tracking of objects.
"We are implementing updates without any changes in weight and with the same range," said Daniel Knauffel, Director of Software Development at Quantum-Systems.
The medium-range reconnaissance drones Vector by Quantum-Systems have been operational in Ukraine since May 2022. They are supplied to the Ukrainian military with funding from the government of Germany.
