"We would like to draw the public's attention to counteracting the spread of Russian propaganda films in Italy.
The State Film Agency of Ukraine expresses concern about the planned screenings of Russian propaganda films Maidan, the Road to War (Maidan, la strada verso la guerra) and Children of Donbass (I bambini del Donbass) in different Italian cities in January-February 2025.
Causes of concern:
- The film Maidan, the Road to War was produced by the Russian state propaganda channel Russia Today, which casts doubt on the objectivity of the events presented.
- In Children of Donbas, emotional impact with sensitive topics and manipulation through distortion of the real situation are used.
- Distribution is carried out by Donbass Italia notorious for spreading other propaganda materials.
These films may contain distorted information about the Revolution of Dignity events and the Russian-Ukrainian war. Their screening at Italian cultural venues during a full-scale war in Ukraine may contribute to disinformation and manipulation of public opinion.
In its turn, the Ukrainian State Film Agency appealed to the Embassy of Ukraine in Italy to take measures for prevention of screening of these films.
