An incident involving a leakage of reagents from the first circuit of the reactor into the second has occurred at Unit 5 of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, and it remains unresolved.

According to NNEGC "Energoatom," due to the incompetence of the Russian personnel, particularly the shift supervisor of the chemical department who lost control over the saturation of the special water purification filters, water from the first circuit containing a solution of boric acid started entering the deaerator room and subsequently all steam generators.

"The actions of the invaders are absolutely incompetent," emphasized Petro Kotin, the president of "Energoatom."

The incident with the reagent leak occurred as a result of the actions of Russian occupiers regarding the unauthorized transfer of Unit 5 of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to a "hot" state.

According to Kotin, the actions of the occupiers may lead to the loss of integrity of the steam generator tubes, which does not comply with the regulations for the safe operation of the power unit.

"With their actions, the invaders once again jeopardize the safety of the station's operation and contribute to the constant degradation of equipment and more frequent dangerous incidents. This can, at any moment, lead to an emergency situation," Kotin emphasized.

Furthermore, similar manipulations are occurring with Unit 3. Specifically, attempts are being made to take Unit 3 out of maintenance and bring it to a "hot" state to take Unit 5 offline.

NNEGC reminded that due to the occupiers' violations of licensing conditions at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, a series of emergency situations have already occurred, with the most recent one on November 14, 2023.

"In addition, the senseless decisions of the current 'leaders' of the station regarding its transfer to a 'hot' state have led to a significant increase in liquid radioactive waste on the station's site, posing potential harm to personnel, the population, and the environment," explained NNEGC.
