Two documentary films about the war in Ukraine, Porcelain War and Once Upon a Time in Ukraine, have made it to the shortlist for the 97th Academy Awards.
Porcelain War, which is in the running for Best Documentary Feature, is one of 15 films on the shortlist. Directed by Brendan Bellomo and Slava Leontiev, the film tells the story of three Ukrainian artists specializing in porcelain animal figures. Slava Leontiev, one of the filmmakers, also appears in the film. The production involved filmmakers from the USA, Ukraine, and Australia.
Once Upon a Time in Ukraine, which depicts the war in Ukraine through the eyes of children, has made it to the shortlist for Best Documentary Short Film, alongside 13 other films. The directors of this film are Betsy West and Earl Mack.
Voting for the nominations will begin on Wednesday, January 8, and end on Sunday, January 12. The nominees for the 97th Academy Awards will be announced on Friday, January 17.
