Russia has likely lost around 138,000 troops killed and wounded in the Russian-Ukrainian war so far this year.
This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defence on platform X.
Citing data from the Ukrainian General Staff, the British defence ministry noted that in March 2025, Russian forces were losing an average of around 1,300 personnel per day.
This figure marks an increase compared to February 2025, when average daily losses stood at 1,250, though it remains below the highest daily average of nearly 1,600 recorded at the end of 2024.
“The rising number of casualties has continued into early April 2025 and likely reflects an increase in Russian attacks along the front line. Russian forces are likely attempting to regain offensive momentum after a period of reduced activity in the early months of the year,” the UK ministry assessed.
Despite the relatively static front line, Russian losses in 2025 remain significantly higher than in spring 2024, when daily casualties among Russian troops consistently remained below 1,000.
In total, since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has likely suffered over 920,000 casualties.
