On August 12, Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Trade Representative Taras Kachka held a meeting with representatives of Ukrainian business, including the IT sector, to discuss the government’s priorities in digital transformation, harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with EU law, and development of export potential.
Participants included representatives from organizations such as Kharkiv IT Cluster, Kyivstar Tech, CRM.UA, SoftServe, Huawei Ukraine, Oscorp, N-iX, Forvis Mazars, DSV Logistics, UAPAY/Igama Ukraine, Devlight, Uwell, EPAM Ukraine, Sigma Software Group, SEETON, Arzinger, YouControl, Esper Bionics, SK Security, PwC Ukraine, Luxoft, and others.
Key topics of discussion included prospects for cooperation within Ukraine’s European integration, implementation of necessary steps for Ukraine’s accession to the European payment system (SEPA), and adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to EU law considering business interests and maintaining favorable conditions for the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
“Our task is to harmonize Ukrainian legislation with EU norms so that business does not lose competitiveness but, on the contrary, gains new opportunities for growth,” emphasized the official.
The Vice Prime Minister also provided updates on the negotiation process for Ukraine’s EU accession and highlighted the important role of business and expert communities in forming the country’s joint position regarding reform implementation. He noted that the government, together with the European Commission, has been conducting since February 2024 a screening process to assess the conformity of Ukrainian legislation with EU law, which is expected to be completed by autumn of this year.
Special attention was given to Ukraine’s export strategy, particularly supporting the IT sector as a key part of the economy and taking into account the interests of Ukrainian companies in the Eurointegration process.
He stressed that the IT industry is not only a driver of Ukraine’s economy but also a symbol of the country’s resilience and innovation.
“The IT sector has prospects to be among the first to fully integrate into the EU Internal Market. That is why we must create the best possible conditions for its development. At the same time, we have already achieved significant progress in sectoral integration in roaming. Ukraine has completed all necessary steps and will become part of the EU roaming zone from January 1, 2026.”
The discussion also covered efforts for Ukraine’s accession to the EU’s SEPA payment space.
Taras Kachka noted that opening access to the EU Digital Single Market and joining SEPA are strategic steps that will significantly ease cross-border trade and boost Ukrainian exports.
At the end of the meeting, Kachka emphasized the importance of receiving regular feedback from business to ensure the success of ongoing government reforms. This will help better understand business needs and interests to consider them within EU accession negotiations.
“Our joint strategic task is to ensure the most favorable conditions for the functioning and development of Ukrainian business during the transition to European standards and integration into the EU Internal Market,” the Vice Prime Minister stated.
The event was organized by Diia.City Union and IT Ukraine Association.
