On September 9, Ukrainian Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochitsky met with Natalka Cmoc, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, and representatives from the Canadian Embassy.
The participants emphasized the importance of completing the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide, noting that it is an integral part of Ukrainians' struggle to preserve their identity. The discussion also covered Ukraine's and Canada's cooperation in combating Russian disinformation and fake news on an institutional level.
Mykola Tochitsky stated, "Ukrainians and Canadians share common values. We are grateful to Canada for its support in our struggle. It is important for us to deepen our collaboration with a partner that understands our culture and strategic goals.'
Canadian Ambassador Natalka Cmoc added, 'Cultural resistance and the fight for cultural identity are very important factors in Ukraine's struggle for victory and a just peace, and we are all partners in achieving this goal.'"
The Minister highlighted that the Russian propaganda machine, in its information war against the civilized world, attempts to use all means, including cinema, to distort reality. In this context, Tochitsky stressed the need for joint efforts with Canadian partners to prevent the creation and spread of content at international film festivals that, under the guise of 'a deeper understanding of the war,' justifies the aggressor's crimes.
