Ukraine and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have launched the implementation of the Green Industrial Recovery Program for Ukraine for 2024-2028. The official signing ceremony took place in Vienna on June 28, 2024. The program was signed by Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Economy Nadia Bigun and UNIDO's Deputy Director General and Managing Director of the Directorate of Corporate Services and Operations Yuko Yasunaga.

The program outlines a strategic vision for the transformative and sustainable recovery of Ukraine's industry, guided by the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 adopted by the UN General Assembly on September 25, 2015, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Additionally, the program aligns with Ukraine's priorities for early recovery, policy reform vision, and sectoral strategies.

"Ukraine has significant potential for industrial development. We are grateful to UNIDO for the opportunity to realize this potential and develop a more environmentally friendly and sustainable industrialization. We highly value UNIDO's continuous support and look forward to further strengthening our cooperation under this new program and initiating new joint initiatives to support Ukraine during these challenging times," said Nadia Bigun during the signing ceremony.

In unique circumstances in Ukraine, UNIDO has developed a special program for green industrial recovery, covering three key areas of activity:

  • Creating opportunities for people
  • Supporting businesses and attracting investments
  • Promoting the green economy

"We are delighted to have such a strong partnership with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. We are confident that this collaboration will bring truly transformative changes to the country's industry, contributing to growth and prosperity during the recovery from the destructive consequences of the ongoing conflict," noted Yuko Yasunaga during the signing ceremony.

Over the past year, UNIDO has intensified its efforts in Ukraine and achieved significant results, swiftly expanding joint activities. This includes a comprehensive diagnostic study of Ukraine's industry, which provides crucial data and unique analysis at micro, meso, and macro levels. Supported by various development and financing partners, UNIDO has launched new activities in areas such as 3D-printed prosthetics production, expanding economic opportunities for women and youth, institutional capacity building at the municipal level, quality infrastructure, energy supply, circular economy, food industry, robotization, and artificial intelligence.

Currently, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan, UNIDO is preparing a large-scale project aimed at technology transfer in several critical sectors.

The Government of Ukraine and UNIDO are committed to continuing their partnership and mobilizing resources to achieve the goals set out in the Green Industrial Recovery Program for Ukraine for 2024-2028.
