One of the strategic priorities for Ukraine's vegetable oil industry is to restore exports to Asian markets. Competition in the region has intensified as other producers expand their output, causing Ukraine to lose market share.
This was stated by Stepan Kapshuk, Director General of Ukroliyaprom, during the Fat & Oil Industry 2026 conference.
"Over the past three months, we have not shipped a single tonne to India. Therefore, the number one priority for the vegetable oil industry today is to regain Asian markets," he emphasised.
Kapshuk identified Russia and Argentina as Ukraine's main competitors in the global sunflower oil market.
Over the past two to three years, Argentina has increased sunflower production by more than 1 million tonnes, enabling the country to expand sunflower oil production and exports, including to Asian markets traditionally supplied by Ukraine.
"Now is precisely the right moment for Ukrainian products, before Argentina enters the market. We compete for the same export destinations — India and China, which are the largest consumers of our products," Kapshuk noted.
