The coalition of fighter jets will transfer to Ukraine a "significant number" of F-16 aircraft. They will be equipped with the latest weaponry and will be able to operate along the frontline.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Espen Barth Eide, during a joint briefing with the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba.

"I am convinced that Ukraine needs to strengthen its strike capability, deliver strikes along the frontline. And this is one of the reasons why we are very pleased to join the coalition regarding the F-16, where we will be transferring Norwegian F-16s, which are upgraded and in good condition," he said.

According to him, Norway, together with Danish and Dutch colleagues, is training Ukrainian pilots.

"And perhaps there will be even more long-range strike capabilities, which are currently very important for Ukraine," he added.

Eide noted that Norway is currently cooperating with Denmark, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

"There will be a significant number. When you ask how many will be from Norway (F-16s), I cannot give you an exact number because there are also upgraded aircraft, in better combat condition, and some fuselages that can be used for repairs as well. I will be cautious here. I won't give an exact number," he said.

Eide mentioned that he has experience in defense and knows that the F-16 is a very powerful platform, and everything depends on how it is equipped.

"Because it is a very advanced technological platform, but the main thing is also the armament system that can be mounted on the platform. Therefore, together as a system, it will be a significant contribution. So the aircraft that will be in operational capability will have the latest weaponry," the minister added.
