Besides citrus fruits, this season Ukraine will receive large shipments of peaches, nectarines, flat peaches, and also sweet cherries, as domestic production of cherries is expected to be very low. Apples will be imported until the start of the next season.

This forecast was made by Volodymyr Hurzhiy, head of USPA Fruit, according to AgroPortal.ua.

According to him, USPA Fruit — a company known as an exporter of Ukrainian apples — is beginning systematic fruit imports into Ukraine. Oranges, lemons, kiwis, peaches, apricots, persimmons — these are the core imported products. Volodymyr Hurzhiy believes that there is always demand for imported fruit and that this demand will continue.

“Additionally, stone fruits have recently been affected by weather due to late spring frosts. Most orchards in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions are occupied; many stone fruits were grown there,” the expert notes.

Volodymyr Hurzhiy adds that USPA Fruit is currently working on quality and shortening the supply chain to make it as short as possible, considering the number of participants.

“A short supply chain provides a price advantage since we work directly from the orchard. Our representatives reserve products starting from flowering. For example, in Spain, they began checking quality from the first orchard that bloomed. Sometimes we buy produce straight from the field, then sort, pack, and deliver it,” explains the company head.
