The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the allocation of a $3.9 billion grant from the United States, with funds to be disbursed through World Bank structures.
This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
"The government will direct these funds towards salaries for rescuers, teachers, and medical workers, as well as social support programs. We expect to receive this grant soon," he said.
Shmyhal also mentioned that Ukraine has met the second-quarter 2024 indicators for the Ukraine Facility programme.
"We have received a positive assessment from the European Commission. This concerns reforms in the budgetary, customs, anti-corruption, and energy sectors," said the Prime Minister, adding that Ukraine expects the next tranche from the EU of €4.1 billion as early as September this year.
It's worth noting that Ukraine has not received aid from the United States this year. In April, the US Congress approved a support package for Kyiv amounting to $61 billion, with the majority allocated for military aid and a portion for budgetary support.
Since the beginning of the year, Ukraine has received $14 billion in budgetary support from the EU, IMF, and Western countries. Kyiv hopes to receive a total of $38 billion in aid for the year. Next year, the aid amount will decrease, but Ukraine may receive a $50 billion loan backed by frozen Russian assets.
