Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Vitalii Koval, signed an updated Memorandum on the launch of the unique Grain Verification Scheme (GVS) system with his British and Lithuanian counterparts during the Berlin Conference of Agriculture Ministers.
The system aims to combat the illegal export of Ukrainian grain from occupied territories.
“The Memorandum on launching the unique GVS system to fight illegal grain exports from occupied territories is the first ministerial-level step in implementing the strategic agreement between Ukraine and the United Kingdom, which will form the basis of our cooperation for the next hundred years. The pilot implementation of this initiative will take place in Lithuania, at the Klaipeda port, which will become the key hub for verifying the origin of Ukrainian agricultural products,” emphasized Vitalii Koval.
According to him, the agreement includes:
- Transparent control over grain: GVS will allow for the identification of stolen grain and prevent its illegal transportation.
- An innovative database from the United Kingdom: advanced technologies for determining the place of origin will help protect the interests of Ukrainian farmers and ensure market transparency.
“This cooperation is an example of how Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and Lithuania are together creating new standards of security and justice in the agricultural sector, which will impact the future of global food security,” noted the Minister.
Vitalii Koval also thanked the partners for their trust and support of Ukraine.
