Ukrainian Armor is launching serial production of the VOLS buggy.

“The company’s production capacity will allow us to manufacture several hundred highly needed vehicles per month for the front, provided there is a state order,” said Vladyslav Belbas, CEO of Ukrainian Armor, emphasizing the high demand for such equipment at the front.

According to him, the company has fully prepared the documentation and component base for serial production of these buggies.

Belbas noted the challenges faced when coordinating with the Ministry of Defense:

“When we approached the Ministry and started setting requirements for these buggies, we encountered bureaucratic inefficiency. They tried to turn the buggies into armored vehicles, seating four people inside. That’s no longer a buggy but a vehicle, which also affects the cost. Our fundamental position is to follow the concept dictated by the front and the users of these vehicles.”

He added that the serial VOLS buggy should not exceed $20,000 in cost, though the exact price is not yet finalized as the codification process is still underway.

“Our goal is for the buggy to be cheaper than a pickup. It must be fast and reliable. These vehicles are not meant to replace cargo transport in the rear—they are designed for combat tasks. On the front, the buggies can be used to transport the wounded, deliver ammunition, perform maneuverable defense or offense, or conduct quick raids behind enemy lines. Unlike a pickup, which you wouldn’t take for a strike behind enemy lines, a buggy equipped with a 12.7 mm machine gun can be used to engage the enemy effectively,” Belbas concluded.
