Supported by the Ukrainian Institute and Semente Cultural Productions, musician Georgiy Matviyiv will participate in the Swedish music project DUETS. This concert is the only one from the DUETS series that will be broadcasted by Swedish National Radio.
DUETS is a new concert series at Stallet Världens Musik Theatre during the autumn and winter of 2022/2023. Once a month, the project presents a unique live music experience where an international world/folk artist plays with an established Swedish jazz instrumentalist and composer. The basis of these concerts is to present to curious audience artists who compose new music and play unusual instruments from different countries on stage with a well-known Swedish musician established in the jazz world. The idea is to let the artists have a dialogue between their original repertoires and throughout the voices of their instruments, giving space to the improvisation as well.
Georgiy Matviyiv â an artist of the NAONI orchestra, a laureate of many international academic and jazz competitions and festivals, innovative bandurist, composer, arranger, soloist of the Chaika ensemble, soloist of the European Jazz Orchestra 2012, teacher of O.V. Nezhdanova Odesa National Academy, soloist of the Odesa Philharmonic, since 2018 soloist of the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Ukraine
Georgiy Matviyiv will perform together with the Swedish drummer and composer Peter Danemo. In this collaboration, the musicians will present a special duo concert.
Peter Danemo is a Stockholm-based drummer and composer whose music has an unerring feeling for dynamics and form. Danemo has received commissions from, among others, Swedish Radioâs P2 Musik Jazzradion, Svenska Rikskonserter (The Swedish Concert Institute) and the Copenhagen Art Ensemble. In 2015, he was the composer-in-residence for the highly respected and hugely popular Norrbotten Big Band. Danemo has formed and played in a wide range of groups during his career: Peter Danemo Quartet, Peter Danemo Kapell, Lundin/Danemo Quartet (and Quintet) and the very unusual group LED.
As a sign of solidarity with Ukrainians, the performance will take place on February 23, on the eve of the anniversary of Russiaâs full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The concert series is in partnership with WOMEX, the biggest Music Fair in the world since some of the international artists have been showcased by the most significant international music fair.
