The Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a drone attack on the city of Ukhta in Russia's Komi Republic on the morning of October 9.

According to the Ukrainian monitoring channel Supernova+, the target was the Lukoil-Ukhtaneftepererabotka oil refinery, also known as the Ukhta Oil Refinery.

In 2025, the facility processed approximately 3 million tonnes of crude oil, accounting for 1.1% of Russia's total refining volume. The refinery produces petrol, diesel fuel, fuel oil and vacuum gas oil.

The Ukhta refinery has previously been targeted by Ukrainian forces. On February 12, 2026, a drone strike caused a fire at one of its two primary crude oil distillation units, AVT-1, which accounts for approximately one-third of the plant's processing capacity, or around 6,000 tonnes per day.

In August 2025, a drone struck one of the storage tanks at the facility.

Ukhta is located approximately 1,700 kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
