Up to 90% of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia suffer from various forms of torture, inhumane treatment, and violence.
This was reported by Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin during a workshop for journalists on international law and armed conflicts.
These figures are based on the testimonies of prisoners of war released from Russia, as revealed in informal conversations.
"The first so-called screening - informal conversations with prisoners of war who are now returning - indicates that up to 90% of our people suffer from various forms of torture, inhumane treatment, physical, including sexual, and mental violence," said Andriy Kostin during the workshop on international law in armed conflicts and holding Russia accountable for international crimes.
He added that this system affects those who end up in Russian hands.
"The system that Russia has created is a system of torture and inhumane treatment towards those who fall into their hands - in the occupied territories or in the territory of Russia," said Kostin.
