The Vatican expressed hope that the parties involved in the ceasefire initiative in Ukraine would take the opportunity "for sincere dialogue" aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace.
This was stated in a communiqué from the Vatican Press Office regarding the conversation between Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on March 14, which was released on Monday, according to Vatican News.
It is noted that during the conversation with Cardinal Parolin, Zelensky informed him about the ceasefire initiative in Ukraine proposed by the United States.
"In this regard, the Holy See, renewing its prayers for peace in Ukraine, expresses hope that the parties involved will take the opportunity for sincere dialogue, free from any preconditions, and aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace," the communiqué stated.
The Vatican also called for all efforts to be made to free prisoners, according to the press office.
