So far this year, 2,200 Russian servicemen have been captured in eastern Ukraine. During the Dobropillia operation, the Ukrainian Defense Forces inflicted heavy losses on Russian troops, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a briefing with journalists.
“Putin wanted Dobropillia. And our forces acted correctly. We don’t know what the Russians would have done if we hadn’t carried out the Dobropillia operation. They ‘wiped out’ many of their soldiers there. The 2,200 prisoners were taken over more than six months in 2025. Across the east — Dobropillia, Pokrovsk — we captured 2,200 Russian soldiers. Imagine how many they lost,” Zelensky stated.
He also noted that since Russia is redeploying all its forces toward the Pokrovsk direction, their plans to advance, including in the Sumy region, are unfeasible.
“They have no forces left in Sumy. Bit by bit, they are moving everything toward Pokrovsk,” the President emphasized, adding that Pokrovsk remains the Russian main target.
