Yasno CEO: Ukrainians may receive electricity for five to six hours a day during winter

It is quite realistic that during winter, Ukrainians may receive electricity for five to six hours a day, but it all depends on circumstances.

Yasno's CEO, Serhii Kovalenko, shared this during an interview on Business Breakfast.

"If we answer the question: six to five hours of electricity per day for consumers is quite realistic, but I think it could be better. It depends on how much we can restore. Therefore, according to the winter forecast: I believe we need to prepare based on 5-6 hours per day. But by the end of August, we will need to update the forecast," said Yasno's CEO.

Kovalenko noted that electricity consumption peaks even more during winter compared to summer. He forecasted that the generation deficit could reach 30-35%.

"As for winter, the entire forecast is based on two things: whether we can increase the physical capability for electricity imports. This has already been discussed, and I hope that by the end of summer or the beginning of the heating season, our physical capability for imports will increase... Secondly, all nuclear units are currently undergoing maintenance to ensure they operate during winter. Thirdly, we will partially repair what can be repaired," he explained.

He emphasized that power outages will depend, in part, on temperature. If the average winter temperature is +10 degrees Celsius, it will be positive for them. However, if it drops to -15 degrees Celsius or lower, it will be negative because lower temperatures increase heating consumption.

Additionally, Kovalenko reminded that in summer, electricity consumption peaks 30% higher than in March-April, primarily due to air conditioning use and nuclear generation maintenance. Currently, the electricity deficit ranges from 15% to 25%.
