By the beginning of 2023, more than 150 Weight in motion (WiM) weighing systems will operate on Ukrainian roads, of which 50 are planned to be installed in 2022. This was stated by the deputy chairman of the State Agency for Highways "Ukravtodor" Andriy Ivko.

102 WiM complexes will be installed in Ukraine on national roads by the end of this year. We plan to install 50 more such complexes by the end of next year. At the end of 2022 - the beginning of 2023, more than 150 weighing complexes in motion will operate in Ukraine, and it will hardly be possible to bypass them now.

The deputy chairman of Ukravtodor noted that the system of WiM complexes is being introduced in Ukraine primarily in order to teach drivers not to violate the norms of gauge and weight control. According to Ivko, since the WiM system began to work fully in Ukraine, the number of violations of the norms has decreased 30 times.

The Ministry of Infrastructure expects to equip gauge and weight control complexes at the entrances to all ports by July 2022.

In Ukraine, since October 1, 2021, laws have entered into force introducing automatic recording of violations of weight-in-weight standards by Weigh-in-Motion complexes. From that day on, participants in the transportation market began to receive real fines for violating weight norms.

At the end of June, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the Law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Certain Issues of Implementation of Dimensional and Weight Control" No. 1534-IX, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on June 3, 2021. The document is intended to legislate the possibility of automatic fixing of dimensional and weight parameters violations.

On June 29, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading and as a whole, draft law No. 3743 "On Amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses on Certain Issues of Implementation of Dimensional and Weight Control" provides fines of up to UAH 51 thousand for violation of the rules of travel of large and heavy vehicles on highways, streets, or railway crossings.

In 2020, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a decree providing for the introduction of round-the-clock weight control of vehicles.

The first WiM complexes in Ukraine began to be installed in August 2019.
