The Japanese commercial drone manufacturer, Prodrone, plans to supply Ukraine with its drones for humanitarian demining operations, as reported by Nikkei, a Japanese business publication.
Prodrone intends to provide drones capable of operating at a height of 50 cm above the ground. Ukrainian experts will develop the mine detection technology, which is expected to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI). This AI integration will allow the drone to map detected mines on an interactive terrain map.
The Japanese company anticipates beginning drone deliveries to Ukraine next year.
According to Prodrone’s website, the company manufactures drones for various purposes, including high-resolution land surveying (for construction, mining, etc.), inspecting infrastructure (bridges, dams, tunnels, and other structures), and for logistics and cargo transportation.
Previously, Japan has already supported Ukraine’s demining efforts by providing four ALIS systems, known for their precise mine detection capabilities, and 50 metal detectors. Additionally, Ukrainian experts have undergone mine-clearing training in Japan.
