Ukraine has introduced a new breed of trotting horses, created by breeders based on a population of domestically bred trotting horses crossed with American Standardbreds and French trotting breeds, announced Vitaliy Koval, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food.
"The breed has been approved by the expert commission of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. This is a new achievement in animal husbandry, as the work to create this trotting breed has been underway for 30 years. We focused on speed, distance, and exterior characteristics," he stated in a Telegram post.
Koval emphasized that the Ukrainian breed differs from other trotting breeds in terms of its characteristics, geographical origin, breeding methods, and genetic markers.
"Our horses have a dry, sturdy constitution and possess a harmonious build with a distinct harness type. They have an energetic yet gentle temperament. The horses of this new breed are hardy and well-adapted to various ecological conditions in Ukraine," the minister explained.
The approval of the new breed took place in the Myrhorod district of the Poltava region at the Dibrivskyi Horse Factory No. 62 farm, part of the state enterprise Horse Breeding of Ukraine.
