A pilot project on waste management regulation according to European standards will be launched in Odessa, as reported by the city council.
Odessa is one of four Ukrainian cities selected for participation in Sweden's government project. The programme, "Strengthening Municipal Waste Management in Ukraine for 2024-2027," will allow the development of detailed waste management plans at the local level.
The programme in Odessa will include four pilot projects and has ten components in total, including:
- Implementation of the "polluter pays" principle
- Assistance for regions in developing regional and local waste management plans
- Increasing producer responsibility
- A systematic approach to reducing gases produced at landfills
- Support from Swedish municipalities in providing necessary equipment
“These plans will serve as a foundation to attract investors for long-needed projects in Odessa,” said the city's mayor, Hennadiy Trukhanov.
