A science park will be launched this year at the Kyiv Aviation Institute, according to the institute’s press release. The park will serve as a hub for developing technologies in Deep Tech, civil UAVs, cybersecurity, Defense Tech, artificial intelligence, machine learning, materials science, robotic systems, and engineering.
The science park will operate in three key areas:
- Developing high-tech innovations with subsequent technology transfer.
- Running incubation and acceleration programmes for startups.
- Implementing projects and providing services based on business requests.
In addition to Kyiv Aviation Institute, Ukrainian businesses will co-found the park. Participants will gain access to the institute’s research services and developments, with priority for industrial implementation.
According to the concept, Kyiv Aviation Institute’s stake in the science park will not exceed 49%.
As reported by dev.ua, the expected contributions from all participants are estimated at €1 million. These funds will finance the park’s operations in its first year and serve as a foundation for future growth.
The initial focus areas for development within the science park will include aerospace technologies, electronics, and biotechnology.
As of 2024, Ukraine has officially registered 41 science parks, but only five are fully operational and functioning as intended.
Referring to global experience, KAI noted that the successful development of science parks contributes significantly to a country's economic growth. To illustrate this, they cited the United Kingdom, where science parks add £3 billion to the national GDP annually.
Speakers also emphasized that international practice shows science parks are an essential tool for fostering innovation.
