Here are some relevant figures for consideration.
Since the beginning of February 2025 (over the past three weeks), Russian forces have seized 155 km² of Ukrainian territory.
The personnel losses of the Russian forces amounted to 26,960, meaning that for every 1 km² of Ukrainian land, 177 Russian forces were lost since February began. In other words, two battalions per 1 km².
To remind you, in 2024, the average loss rate for Russian forces, relative to the territories captured, was 129 bodies per 1 km². In January 2025, this figure rose to 148 per 1 km².
The trend of high losses for Russian forces, despite a decrease in the territories captured, remains consistent, even though in the first week of February, the loss rate was a record-high 317 per 1 km².
Now, let’s look at the losses in military equipment, which are as follows:
- Tanks: 259, or about 2 per 1 km²
- Armored vehicles (APCs): 486, or 3 per 1 km²
- Artillery: 1,035, or 6 per 1 km²
- Vehicles: 2,614, or 16 per 1 km²
It is noteworthy that the intensity of combat and the use of mechanized components have decreased compared to the first half of February. Also, by the end of the month, the Russian forces are set to reach a new record for vehicle losses, likely surpassing 3,000 units. This once again highlights the significant role civilian vehicles play in Russian forces’ assaults and logistics, rather than specialized armored vehicles.
