An international tournament “Victor Petrenko Cup” will take place in Odessa

The first international Victor Petrenko Cup figure skating tournament will take place in Odessa on October 20-23. The tournament will be held under the auspices of the NOC of Ukraine in Odessa region.

Two weeks before the start of the application for participation, have already sent 158 ​​skaters from 11 countries. Representatives of men’s and women’s singles and ice sports from Australia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Great Britain, Georgia, Estonia, Cyprus, Latvia, Poland, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine will take part in the ice of the Odessa Sports Palace.

Athletes of all ages – novices (children-cadets), juniors, and seniors will compete for the prizes of the Olympic champion. Among the Ukrainian participants are national ice dancing champions Oleksandra Nazarova and Maksym Nikitin, silver medalist of the Ukrainian men’s singles championship, and the Ukrainian junior championship Kyrylo Lishenko, winner of the Ukrainian men’s singles championship Vadym Novikov, and Ukrainian champions Maria Pinchuk and Nikita Pogorelov.

A large group of our athletes is preparing to start also in the youngest categories: “Advance Novice”, “Intermediate Novice”, “Basic Novice”.

“It is no coincidence that the Viktor Petrenko Cup is held in Odessa. Olympic champion, world champion, and three-time European champion come from this city. he is one of the brightest representatives of the well-known Odessa figure skating school “Kryzhynka”, – it is said in the site’s material of the Ukrainian figure skating federation.

Currently, Viktor Petrenko regularly holds master classes and training seminars in different countries but calls the promotion and development of figure skating in Ukraine his priority. The tournament he started has already been recognized by the International Skating Union (ISU), it is also included in the UFFC calendar and the Unified Calendar Plan of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine. This sporting event was sponsored by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine.

We will remind you that in February in Odessa “LuMi Dance Trophey” traditionally takes place. This year it was held under the patronage of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine in Odessa region.

Viktor Petrenko

Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1992). He was born on June 27, 1969 in Odessa.

He was five years old, the parents took him to the local ice rink and started him in figure skating. At the age of nine, his talent was noticed by Ukrainian figure skating coach Galina Zmievskaya and she took him on as a pupil at Spartak in Odessa.
