General Prosecutor Andriy Kostin, in an interview with the Italian Adnkronos, discussed the work on gathering evidence regarding Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
"Our goal is to hold Putin accountable for the crime of aggression. The task of investigators and prosecutors is to collect the necessary evidence of his involvement. Several experts involved in this process have previously worked on gathering evidence of international crimes committed in the former Yugoslavia. At that time, there was no hope that Slobodan Milosevic would stand trial, but it happened. Therefore, history confirms: Putin will have to answer for his crimes," said Kostin.
The investigation of over 127,000 war crimes requires comprehensive actions and full support from international partners to achieve justice before the end of active hostilities. In this context, Italy plays a crucial role.
"We highly appreciate Italy's support for our initiatives regarding the investigation and accountability for Russia's war crimes. With the support of our colleagues led by the Minister of Justice of Italy, Carlo Nordio, training courses for investigators and prosecutors are being conducted in Ukraine, significantly enhancing our institutional capacity".
The support that Ukraine receives today in investigating Russia's international crimes indicates the strengthening and expansion of the international coalition for justice.
