At the Festival of Lights in Berlin, a unique audiovisual installation titled “Discover Ukraine. Destroyed Pieces” was presented, dedicated to Ukrainian monumental mosaics. The project was showcased on Museum Island, creating a double reflection effect in the waters of the Spree River.
The installation brings to life 56 mosaics from the 1960s to the 1980s. These were created by Ukrainian artists, including Alla Horska, Ada Ryabchuk, and Volodymyr Melnychenko.
Hutsuls, astronauts, and athletes from the past come to life on the festival screens. The 3D installation is accompanied by music that emphasizes the beauty of the recreated images.
“Created by Alla Horska, Ada Ryabchuk, Volodymyr Melnychenko, and many other Ukrainian artists, hutsuls dance, horses prance, athletes run, and astronauts send greetings from other planets. 40% of the recreated mosaics were destroyed or damaged during the Russian invasion,” wrote journalist Darka Horova on her Facebook page.

The installation, which has already been displayed in London, Vienna, and Copenhagen, is part of the international initiative Discover Ukraine, aimed at preserving Ukrainian cultural heritage in wartime. The project was prepared by the Ukrainian Institute.
