Ukrainian tennis players Lesia Tsurenko and Daria Snigur had different starts at the Australian Open 2024.

Australian Open, 1st round, women

Tsurenko – Bronzetti – 2:1 (3:6, 7:5, 6:3)

Parks – Snigur – 2:1 (2:6, 6:2, 6:4)

Experienced  LesiaTsurenko overcame Lucia Bronzetti from Italy in three sets. Although the debut of the match was catastrophic for the Ukrainian – trailing 1:5 with three lost service points and only one break, she managed to regain control slightly but didn't have time to recover fully.

However, Tsurenko made a strong comeback in the second set. With a break, she took a 3:1 lead, but the Italian soon found a symmetric response. Nevertheless, the 34-year-old Ukrainian pressed Bronzetti on the opponent's serve in the eleventh game and calmly closed the set on her own serve.

The deciding set mirrored the first set. This time, with three breaks, Tsurenko quickly secured a lead (4:1), which turned out to be an insurmountable burden for the Italian player. Interestingly, out of nine games, eight (!) ended with breaks. In particular, the last one, where the representative of Ukraine converted the match point on her third attempt.

Daria Snigur played three sets against American Alicia Parks. The Ukrainian tennis player confidently started by taking a point on the opponent's serve in the opening game. However, her entertaining game, with another break in the middle of the set, allowed the young Kyivan to close the set in her favor in just 29 minutes.

However, this local success did not develop further. Parks managed to seize the initiative and leveled the sets with two breaks towards the end of the set. The decisive point was scored by the American tennis player on the fourth attempt. In the third set, Snigur fought until the end, but after an unrealized break point in the ninth game, she lost her serve and exited the tournament.
