Yesterday, on January 5, Belgium officially began its presidency of the European Union. Support for Ukraine is a priority for the country.
This information was reported by the Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo during a joint press conference with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
De Croo emphasized that Belgium's priorities during its presidency include:
- Support for Ukraine.
- Strengthening democracy and economic development.
He also mentioned that the immediate task is to coordinate, at the EU summit on February 1, the plan for financial assistance to Kyiv from 2024 to 2027 in the amount of 50 billion euros.
"European citizens are looking at the European Union. People are looking at the European Union with clear expectations, with the hope to protect it, with the hope to strengthen our well-being, and with the hope to prepare a common future. A common future here in Europe, of course, also means Ukraine at the heart of Europe," noted the Prime Minister.
