The first stage of the competitive selection of the best Riedel glass for Odessa Black (Odes'kyi chornyi) variety took place in Ukraine. The project aims to determine the best local wine Odessa Black among Ukrainian producers and the selection of the optimal glass Riedel.
Best Riedel glass for Odessa Black variety is a project aimed at determining the best local wine Odessa Black among Ukrainian producers and selection of the optimal Riedel glass for the same wine. Maximilian Riedel himself took an active part in organising the project.
In Ukraine, wine from the Odessa Black grape variety is produced by many wineries, 32 samples of Odessa Black wine took part in the competition. Wine samples were sent to Riedel for a tasting were of great interest.
Odessa Black is a grape variety (Synonym: Aliberne) bred in Ukraine at the Institute of Viticultural and Enology. VE Tairov. The wine from Odessa Black is somewhat reminiscent of wine from its parent - Cabernet Sauvignon. The structure of the wine is very rich, has good tannin and acidity. At a young age, Odessa Black wines are rough and require aging. Aged wine has dark ruby ​​colour. The taste of wine is rich, with tones of cherry.

The final will take place on May 20 at the Premier Hotel Odessa. The final selection programme includes the selection of the optimal Riedel glass for Odessa Black wine and a solemn ceremony of awarding the participants of the Best Riedel glass for Odessa Black variety project.
The award ceremony will take place in the form of a spectacular ceremony with the participation of national and regional media, wine and business communities.
The expert commission of the project consists of winemakers, sommelier, representatives of HoReCa, retail and other specialists. The project expert commission included Volodymyr Pechko, Chairman of the Association of Gardeners, Viticulturalists and Winemakers of Ukraine, Kostiantyn Vidoborenko, TM Riedel Brand Ambassador to Ukraine, Yevhen Homenyuk, Regional Representative and Board Member of the Sommelier Association of Ukraine, Yulia Bulaeva, Head of the Department of Grape Ecology NSC "V.Ye. Tairov Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking â€, Yevheniya Nikolaychuk, co-owner of wine bars Like a Local’s, and a number of other wine professionals in Ukraine.
The optimal glass for Odessa Black wine will be determined by experts according to the methodology of sensory analysis and the author's method of Riedel. Best Riedel glass for Odessa Black variety is held as part of Odessa Wine Week.
