The Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Port plans to begin the transit of cargo from Asia to European Union countries through the territories of Moldova and Romania by the end of 2025.
This was announced on Facebook by Ihor Bilyk, First Deputy Director of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Port.
Deliveries to the EU are expected to be carried out via a new railway route: Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi – Galați (Romania), with a total length of 320 km. Of this, 182 km will be on Ukrainian territory, 129 km in Moldova, and 9 km in Romania.
The new route was made possible thanks to the reconstruction of the railway section Bender – Basarabeasca – Etulia – Giurgiulești in Moldova, which has been underway since 2022. The work is expected to be completed this year, according to Ihor Bilyk.
He noted that the new route will lift restrictions on train weight and speed (up to 90 km/h), enhance safety, shorten delivery times, and create optimal conditions for efficient operation of the railway section.
