The Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Vitaliy Koval, participated in a roundtable organized by the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving.
“I spoke about the importance of developing biomethane. Ukraine is already making confident steps in this direction. This year, production facilities with a capacity of 111 million cubic meters of biomethane will open, and this is just the beginning. Our production potential is estimated at nearly 22 billion cubic meters per year,” the Minister reported.
Vitaliy Koval noted that Ukraine has already created all the basic conditions for developing the biomethane sector. Necessary legislation has been adopted, a biomethane registry and a system of guarantees of origin have been established. State support programs are in place, including a law on investment project aid starting from €12 million.
The Minister emphasized that the State Agrarian Registry can also be used for the digitalization of the biomethane industry. This platform will help ensure effective interaction among all market participants and automate transparent distribution of state support in the bioenergy sector. Digital registries are the foundation of a transparent renewable energy market.
“Biomethane is an efficient use of agricultural waste and by-products to create high value-added goods. And most importantly, it is energy independence. Therefore, the development of bioenergy is among the priorities of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy,” Vitaliy Koval added.
