German Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius stated that Ukraine’s experience in the use of drones, counter-drone operations, and electronic warfare is of “extraordinary value” to Germany and its NATO allies.
The head of Germany’s defense ministry made the remarks during a speech at the ILA Berlin 2026 aerospace exhibition.
“The war in Ukraine, which Putin has been waging for a fifth year, demonstrates a new aspect — Ukraine’s capabilities, from which we, as European NATO allies, and the Bundeswehr as a whole, can learn,” Pistorius said.
According to him, Ukraine’s experience is particularly valuable in the areas of “drone warfare, counter-drone operations, electronic warfare, and many other fields.”
“Ukraine’s battlefield experience is of extraordinary value to us,” the minister emphasized.
He noted that the Ukrainian military is demonstrating technological leaps that occur “within a matter of weeks.”
“We are seeing technological leaps that take place within weeks, and we must respond to them and adapt accordingly,” the German defense chief said.
Pistorius also pointed out that Germany and Ukraine have already agreed to strengthen information sharing.
“We have agreed with the Ukrainians to intensify the exchange of data so that we can learn directly from what is happening there,” he said.
Separately, he stressed the importance of cooperation between the German and Ukrainian defense industries:
“German-Ukrainian joint ventures are an important contribution to Europe’s security.”
