A Type 45 destroyer armed with anti-aircraft missiles and a Type 23 anti-submarine frigate from the Royal Navy's carrier group in the Mediterranean will sail to the Black Sea in May.

A source in the Royal Navy told The Sunday Times that Britain will send ships to show its support for Ukraine amid the concentration of Russian troops in the border areas.

According to the Montreux Convention, the British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth cannot enter the Black Sea, but the publication's source said that aircraft from the British carrier would also be able to come to the aid of Ukraine from the Mediterranean Sea.

Earlier, the United States cancelled the visit of two of its missile destroyers, which were supposed to contain the escalation of the Russian Federation in the region from mid-April to early May.
