In August, the Russian army suffered over 1,000 casualties—both killed and wounded—per day. This increase is linked to the pressure on the Pokrovsk direction and the Ukrainian advance into Kursk region.

According to a report from the UK Ministry of Defence shared on X (Twitter), the average daily Russian losses in Ukraine rose to 1,187 people in August 2024. Since the beginning of the war, Russian casualties have reached 610,000.

The increase in losses in August 2024 is likely connected to the Ukrainian operation near Kursk and ongoing pressure on the Pokrovsk direction. Russia continues to rely on mass forces to compensate for shortages in personnel and equipment.

British intelligence reports that the pressure from Russia across the entire front line is expected to continue over the next month. However, limited capabilities will continue to constrain Russia's ability to leverage any tactical successes into broader operational achievements.

The level of Russian casualties is likely to remain above 1,000 people per day through September 2024, as Russia continues operations across a broad front from Kursk in the north to Robotyne in the south.
