On December 28, the Bulgarian government extended the term of the humanitarian aid programme for Ukrainian refugees. Ukrainians will be able to benefit from state support under the current conditions until April 30, 2024.

This information was reported by sofiaglobe.com and news.bg.

The humanitarian aid scheme involves state payments to the places where Ukrainian refugees are accommodated. This means that Ukrainians will continue to have access to free accommodation.

The assistance programme has undergone several changes and expansions, and according to the latest government decision, it was initially supposed to end on December 31, 2023.

According to data on the government portal, Bulgaria still has 52,125 Ukrainians with temporary protection, although 171,571 people have received status throughout the entire period. Under the state scheme, 6,919 refugees are currently residing.

At the same time, the development of a new programme is being completed, outlining measures in priority areas that will provide the opportunity for life and the realization of refugees with corresponding rights and responsibilities. It is emphasized that a clear and transparent system will be created for displaced persons, enabling more effective administrative work.
